Mr. Shimer started working for Auto-Ordnance in 1931, prior to its sale to Russell Maguire in 1939.

When Auto-Ordnance was sold, Richard Shimer went to work with the new owner. He became the Chief of Plant Security for the Bridgeport factory. Among his other duties he was also in charge of the Auto-Ordnance Fire Department and factory personnel.
