The difference between the feed lips opening on the original Colt "C" drum and the new AO, West Hurley "C" drum, are .022. This is enough to let the first round protrude up far beyond where it should be when the drum is slid into a receiver. Not to mention the drum hanging at an angle pointing aft, this by itself could cause the first cartridge to press against the bottom of the magazine well. These three major design discrepancies is basically why your new A/O, West Hurley "C" drum cannot work to any satisfaction. I hope that this research and these measurements will be of use to you and will help you in future production. In closing I would like to say that, I do not feel that it is my job to solve your drum problems. I feel that your production engineer is either flying blind or he is hindered by a severe cost cutting situation. I'm sure he is aware of what he is trying to pass off as normal. It is quite apparent that you are using Body and Cover slide plates, and center Hubs left over from your previous "L" drum production. This might be a brilliant cost cutting technique, but it does not make for a quality Colt type "C" drum magazine. I assure you people do know the difference. Thank you again for your concern. I'm looking forward to receiving the next new 'C" drum. TO BE CONTINUED NEXT MONTH |
